This was a convention display I did for the ORIGINS Game Convention.
Whiz Kidz was promoting their HERO-CLIX game which had just come out at the time.
They wanted a life size replica of one of the miniatures from their game. So calculating that the rider was 6 feet tall, the Dragonfly was 12 feet long nose to tail
with a 20 foot wingspan!
It had to disassemble for shipping. Each piece was suspended by two lines. Nothing was attatched to anything else except by big slots and pegs it was only held together by GRAVITY!
They sent me a copy of the figure they wanted, so I took it apart and scanned it. Then I used a grid to measure the parts so that it remained proportional.
They told me to render it "life size" so I scaled it to make the rider 6 feet tall. It didn't need to be very detailed because it would only be viewed from a distance.
Here it is in my front yard,
pretty close to completion
next to a No Parking sign
for scale.
I carved it out of big sheets of four and six inch thick construction insulation. My whole apartment filled up with tiny styrofoam beads which greatly upset my dog.
